Terms of Service
Last updated 17 October 2026. By using Velvet you agree to these terms.
1. The service
Velvet (“we”) makes services for Second Life. These terms cover VelvetBots, the service available today. Terms for VelvetRent, VelvetGuard and VelvetVend will be added here before each one launches.
VelvetBots (“the service”) runs software that keeps Second Life avatars (“bots”) online and performing automated actions for the customer who owns them. Features and prices may change; the plan and price shown when you pay is what applies for that period.
2. Linden Lab and Second Life compliance for Scripted Agents / Bots
Second Life is operated by Linden Lab, which is independent of us, and Linden Lab sets the rules for every account in-world. To keep your bot happy, healthy and free from any unexpected hold or ban, we warmly encourage every owner to follow the Second Life Terms of Service and Linden Lab’s scripted-agent policy. That includes marking your own alt (the one hosted as a bot with us) as a scripted agent where Linden Lab’s policy asks for it — this is done by you on your own account, and we cannot do it for you. Following these simple steps keeps your account in good standing and lets you enjoy your bot worry-free. Because Linden Lab alone decides how its own rules are applied, we are not able to control or be responsible for actions it takes on any account.
3. Your accounts and credentials
- You may host only avatars that you own and control. No hosting on behalf of others without their permission.
- To run your bot we must store its login credentials. They are stored encrypted, used only to log your bot in, and deleted after you cancel (see the Privacy Policy).
- Use a dedicated alt with its own password. Never give us credentials for your main avatar or any password you use elsewhere.
4. Payments and refunds
- Payment is in Linden dollars (L$), by topping up a prepaid balance: pay our VelvetSupport avatar in-world from the avatar you signed up with. Weekly plan fees and any per-AI-Brain-turn charges are deducted from that balance. L$ paid from an avatar with no account, or outside the allowed range, are returned automatically.
- Prepaid balance and fees already charged are non-refundable, except where required by law or where we decide otherwise at our discretion, for example after a fault on our side.
- If your balance cannot cover a renewal, your bot is stopped when its paid time ends, and any unused AI credits for it end. We keep its settings for 30 days so you can renew. After that, the bot and its data (settings, conversation logs and login credentials) are permanently deleted. Your balance and add-on licenses are not affected. We send reminders in Second Life before a bot expires as a courtesy; not receiving one does not extend your paid time.
- L$ have no cash value and are governed by Linden Lab’s terms.
- New customer offer. A new customer’s first bot includes a free 7-day trial and L$100 in AI credit. The AI credit is promotional: it is not part of your balance, has no cash value, cannot be withdrawn, transferred or used for plans or add-ons, pays for AI Brain replies only and expires when the trial ends. It is limited to one per Second Life avatar and is not available to existing customers. We may change or end promotional offers at any time; this does not affect credit already granted.
- Weekly AI credits. Each paid week of a bot’s plan includes AI credits for that bot (currently 50 on Basic and 150 on Premium; a Standard AI reply uses 1 credit and a Mature AI reply 2). Free weeks, including the free trial and the extra week of a 4-week renewal, do not include them. Credits are a weekly allowance: they are given one week at a time, expire at the end of each week and do not roll over. They are not part of your balance, have no cash value, cannot be withdrawn, transferred, moved between bots or used for plans, renewals or add-ons, and end if the bot is stopped for non-payment or removed. After a week’s credits are used, AI Brain replies are charged to your balance.
5. Acceptable use
You may not use the service to:
- break the Second Life Terms of Service, Community Standards, or Linden Lab policies;
- harass, spam, or scam other residents, or take money or items under false pretences;
- generate or roleplay sexual or abusive content involving minors or age-play. This is an absolute prohibition;
- impersonate real people or organisations;
- disrupt other residents, regions or our infrastructure.
AI conversation is filtered by house rules that you cannot override. It will disclose that it is an AI when sincerely asked.
6. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or remove a bot or account, without refund, if we reasonably believe it breaks these terms, puts the service or other users at risk, or if a law or a third party requires it. You may cancel any time; your bot will stop at the end of the paid period.
7. No warranty; limited liability
The service is provided “as is”. We aim for continuous availability but do not guarantee uptime, that your bot will never be logged out, or that any result will be achieved. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of an avatar, inventory, L$, reputation or income, or for anything caused by Linden Lab, Second Life outages, or your own configuration. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us for the service in the 30 days before the claim.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. Continued use after a change means you accept it. Material changes will be announced in-world or on this page.
